Creamy Nut Frosting
Submitted by: cfmps
A cooked flour and milk mixture is the base for this creamy frosting, which uses both butter and shortening, granulated and powdered sugar. Either pecans or walnuts would work for the nuts.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. cake flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 2 cups confectioner's sugar (or more)

Method
Gradually blend milk into cake flour and cook to a very thick paste stirring constantly. Cool until lukewarm. Cream shortening and butter with granulated sugar and salt. Add the thickened paste mixture and beat until fluffy. Fold in vanilla and chopped nuts. Blend in confectioner's sugar by hand, adding more to suit your taste to make a generous amount.
Notes: This frosting is very sweet by itself, but is also delicious on Red Cake.
