This cake would make a great addition to any party and is very easy to make even for a beginner.
Rinse and drain raisins. Cream butter & sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each one. Sift flour, soda, baking powder, salt, spices and cocoa together. Blend into creamed mixture alternating with applesauce. Fold in the raisins & nuts. Bake in 2 greased & floured 9 in cake pans. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 25-30 min. Turn out on wire racks to cool before icing.
Icing
Melt the butter, stir in the brown sugar, and bring to a boil over low
heat and cook 2 minutes stirring constantly. Add the milk and cook until the mixture again reaches a boil. Remove from the heat and cool to luke warm. Gradually stir in the powdered sugar heating until smooth. When icing the top of the cake put as many walnuts as you like and also between the layers.
Notes:
You can use 3 baking pans but I use 2 and test for doneness.
