Sour cream adds a great moistness to this cake and the simple homemade caramel frosting is quick and packed with flavor.

  • Servings: 10-12


1 box Devil's Food Cake Mix With Pudding In The Mix
1 cup Sour Cream
½ cup Canola Oil
4 Eggs
½ cup Water
2 cups Chocolate Chips
1 cup Walnuts or Other Nuts
½ cup Light Brown Sugar
½ cup Regular Sugar
¼ cup Evaporated Milk
¼ cup Butter or Margarine
½ tsp Vanilla Flavoring


Empty cake mix into a large bowl, then add sour cream, oil, eggs, and water. Mix well with a mixer. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Spray a bundt pan with cooking spray. Add cake mixture to pan. Cook in a 350 degree oven for 55–60 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for about 30 minutes before removing from pan. For the frosting, add all remaining ingredients, except vanilla, to a pan and bring to a boil. Boil for one minute, remove, and add vanilla flavoring. Beat with a mixer for about 8 minutes, then pour onto cake. A small pitcher can be used to pour the frosting on the cake. If it gets too hard to pour, add a little milk until the desired consistency is reached.

Helpful Tips:

If you want to frost the entire cake, you will need to double the frosting recipe.
