Superb Apple Cake

This easy and delicious apple cake is great served warm with a hefty scoop of cinnamon ice cream.
 

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups chopped apples
  • 1 cup unsifted flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves

Method

Cream the shortening and sugar. Mix in egg and spices. Add the rest of the ingredients. Mix well. The batter will be thick, and not much of it. Stir in your apples. Spread in a greased 9" x 9" pan and bake at 325 for 45 minutes. While warm, cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

 

Notes: No, you didn't do anything wrong. The batter is skimpy. Don't worry - it will be delicious!
