Yellow Butter Cake

This yellow cake uses butter and egg yolks to give it its color. It also has cake flour, baking powder, sugar and milk, and is baked in three 9-inch layers.
 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 egg yolks

Method

Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add butter and milk; beat with an electric mixer on low speed until combined. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add vanilla and egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Divide batter among 3 greased and floured 9x1 1/2-inch round baking pans and spread evenly. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans. Cool completely on wire racks. If desired, freeze in self-sealing plastic bags until needed.
